  26.  What is Radmin?

  28. Radmin is a remote control program that lets you work on another 
  29. computer remotely through your own. You see the remote computer's 
  30. screen in a resizable window on your own monitor or as the full 
  31. screen. Your mouse and keyboard control the remote computer so you 
  32. can work on the remote computer just as if you were sitting right at 
  33. it.

  35. The remote computer can be anywhere on the Internet or in your local 
  36. network. You don't need a fast network connection. Even with a MODEM 
  37. the screen update speed is an acceptable 5-10 screen updates per 
  38. second. If the remote computer is on your LOCAL NETWORK the typical 
  39. speed is from 100 to 500 screen updates per second.

  41. Often while working in Radmin's full-screen mode, you forget that you 
  42. are working on a REMOTE computer!

  44. Radmin consists of two parts:
  45.  
  46. *    The server on the remote computer that sends the remote 
  47.     computer's screen display.
  48. *    The clientùalso called the viewerùthat shows the remote screen 
  49.     display on your own monitor.

  51. To get started you need to run Radmin server on the remote computer. 
  52. Then run Radmin client on your own computer. The current version of 
  53. Radmin requires a TCP/IP connection between both computers, so you'll 
  54. need to set this up if they are not already connected.

  58.  What makes it different from other systems?
  59. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

  61. The speed: Radmin is much faster than every other remote control system 
  62. available. For example, we tested the widely used VNCá(AT&T's Virtual 
  63. Network Computing) and found that Radmin is 150 times faster!
  64.  
  65. Radmin outperforms every other known remote control system, including 
  66. pcAnywhere, Timbuktu, Remote Control, LapLink, etc.

  68. The test was performed on:
  69.     Server: 800 X 600 65535 colors, running Windows NT 4.0 Service 
  70.         pack 4
  71.     Client: 800 X 600 256 colors, running Windows 95
  72.     Ethernet 10 Mbit local network.

  78. Run as a Service
  79. Radmin server can work as a SERVICE under Win9X/ME/NT4.0/2000. 
  80. This lets you log a user on or off remotely.

  82. Multiple Connections Support
  83. Radmin server supports simultaneous multiple connections to the same 
  84. remote screen.

  86. Full-Screen, Scaled and Windowed View Modes
  87. Full-screen mode shows the remote screen full-size on your own monitor
  88. Scaled mode lets you see the remote screen in a window on your monitor 
  89. scaled to the remote screen's defined size.

  91. Video Hook Driver Technology is Used
  92. Radmin uses video hook kernel mode drivers under Windows NT to capture 
  93. screen changes. This boosts the speed to hundreds of screen updates per 
  94. second.

  96. File Transfer
  97. Lets you transfer files easily between computers with Windows Explorer 
  98. like interface.

  100. Remote Shutdown
  101. Now you don't have to connect in the Full Control mode.

  103. Telnet Server
  104. Radmin server provides Telnet access to remote computers (except on 
  105. Win9x).

  107. Windows NT Security Support
  108. You can allow remote control, remote view, telnet and file transfer 
  109. access to specific users or user groups from an NT domain. If a user 
  110. logged into a WinNT domain connects to Radmin server, the user's 
  111. current username/password are employed by Radmin viewer to authorize 
  112. a connection to the Radmin server.

  114. Password Protection
  115. If Windows NT security support is switched off, access to a remote 
  116. computer is controlled by a password. Radmin uses a challenge-response 
  117. password authentication method based on 128 bit strong encryption.

  120. In the version 2.1 encryption is always enabled, it causes just 5% 
  121. performance loss.

  123. IP Filter
  124. Allows an access to the Radmin server only from specified IP addresses 
  125. and subnets.

  127. Radmin Supports High-Resolution Modes
  128. Display resolutions up to 2048 X 2048 X 32 bit color are supported by 
  129. Radmin.

  133.  System requirements.

  135. No special requirements for hardware:
  136. If your computer can run Windows 95 or higher, the program will run.
  137. It even runs on a 386 with 8 MB RAM.

  139. NOTE: Radmin still operates successfully when the display, mouse and 
  140. keyboard are disconnected from the remote computer, however some 
  141. computers do not boot successfully without a keyboard plugged in.

  143. For All Operating Systems (Win9x/ME/NT/2000):
  144. The computer must have TCP/IP installed, the most-used protocol for 
  145. networking computers.

  147. Windows NT 4.0:
  148. Service pack 4 or higher is required.

  154. Two computers need to be connected by TPC/IP, either on a local network 
  155. or the Internet. 
  156. Radmin must be installed on each computer.

  158. Before Installation For All Users:
  159. Uninstall any earlier version of Radmin, before installing a newer 
  160. version.
  161.  
  162. For Windows 2000 Users: 
  163.  
  164. *    You need administrator rights to install Radmin Server as a service.
  165.  
  166. For Windows NT 4.0 Users: 
  167.  
  168. *    You need administrator rights to install Radmin Server as a service 
  169.         and install the driver.
  170. *    Before installing Radmin's video hook driver be sure that any 
  171.     other Remote Control software that uses video hook driver 
  172.     technology has been removed.
  173.     Running more than one video hook driver can lead to a system crash 
  174.     while booting.
  175.     Sample applications that use a video hook driver: NetMeeting 3.0+, 
  176.     SMS, Timbuktu. 
  177.     If a problem occurs while booting with the Radmin driver, you can 
  178.     pressáthe '1' (number one) key repeatedly during booting and the 
  179.     Radmin driver will not load.

  186. A lot of attention was paid to security issues in the Radmin design 
  187. from the outset. Here are some reasons that Radmin's operations are 
  188. completely secure:

  190.  
  191. *    Radmin 2.1 supports Windows NT/2000 user level security. You 
  192.     can allow remote control to specific users or user groups.
  193. *    If Windows NT security support is switched off, access to a 
  194.     remote computer is restricted by password. Remote Administrator 
  195.     uses a challenge-response password authentication method. This 
  196.     method is similar to the authentication method used in Windows 
  197.     NT, but uses more powerful security keys.
  198. *    Remote Administrator has an encrypted mode, where all data, 
  199.     including screen images, mouse movements and keypresses are 
  200.     encrypted. 128 bit Twofish encryption is used. Twofish crypto 
  201.     is distinguished for its combination of speed, flexibility and 
  202.     conservative design.
  203. *    Remote Administrator server has a logging feature. All actions 
  204.     are written to the log file.
  205. *    Remote Administrator server has an IP filter table that 
  206.     restricts 
  207.     remote access to IP addresses and networks you specify.
  208. *    Remote Administrator has a self testing code defence that 
  209.     protects the code from being altered.
